Meghan Bustard is a Canadian based artist living and working in Vancouver, BC, on the unceeded traditional territory of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations.
Meghan’s work is rooted in a process of tactile discovery and imaginative exchange between place and paint. Her paintings are interested in the way experiences of place are written into memory, and she is especially interested in the way emotional response is present in memory making, and can be intertwined with and depicted through art making. She learns places with a curious eye for intersection, continuity, and disruption, while probing the emotional impact each shape, line, colour, and mark have on the viewer. With that in mind, her abstractions gesture at the interplay of form, colour, and pattern in the spaces that shape her world. Her pieces are often in conversation with each other, spilling over from one frame into the next with playful movement as details are remembered, forgotten, bent, fragmented, and brought in and out of focus and importance.
